Department of Urology

Urology, a branch of medicine, also known as genitourinary surgery focuses on the medical and surgical diseases of the urinary tract system. The kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, female and the male reproductive organs, viz testes, epidymis, prostrate and the penis, come under the branch of Urology. The urinary and the reproductive tracts are linked to each other, thus disorder in one effect the other organ. Urology combines the management of non-surgical conditions, such as urinary tract infections and benign prostatic hyperplasia, with the management of surgical conditions like bladder or prostate cancer, kidney stones, congenital abnormalities, traumatic injury, and stress incontinence.

Male Infertility

Infertility is the condition in which a person is not able to contribute his/her part in the conception of a child. The role of a male is to deliver a healthy sperm to his female counterpart. So, if a male becomes unable to do so he is considered infertile. This can result due to number of reasons like reduced or no sperm production, low quality of sperms, impotence, hormonal imbalance, ejaculation problems, etc. Though the condition is not lethal but is highly frustrating, stressful, and causes a psychological trauma in some. So it is important that if a couple is not able to conceive a child even after regular unprotected sex, they must consult an andrologist for the treatment or solution of the problem.

The da Vinci® Surgical System enables surgeons to perform operations through a few small incisions and features several key features, including:

  • Magnified vision system that gives surgeons a 3D HD view inside the patient’s body.
  • Ergonomically designed console where the surgeon sits while operating.
  • Patient-side cart where the patient is positioned during surgery.
  • Wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand.

The da Vinci System is powered by robotic technology that allows the surgeon’s hand movements to be translated into smaller, precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. One of the instruments is a laparoscope – a thin tube with a tiny camera and light at the end. The camera sends images to a video monitor in the operating room to guide doctors during surgery. The surgeon is 100% in control of the da Vinci System at all times.
The da Vinci System has brought minimally invasive surgery to more than 3 million patients worldwide. The da Vinci technology – changing the experience of surgery for people around the world.

What is da Vinci Surgery?
