She Waited 35 Years to Feel Free Again — This Is Lakshmi’s Story

Lakshmi still remembers the joy of holding her newborn for the first time. Like any other mother, she thought her life was full of blessings. But soon after childbirth, something felt wrong. She noticed she was leaking urine — sometimes after a laugh, sometimes after a cough, and sometimes for no reason at all. At first, she brushed it aside, believing it was temporary. Months passed, and the problem didn’t go away.

Everyday life became a challenge. She had to rush to the bathroom constantly, often wetting her clothes before she made it. She stopped wearing her favourite outfits, always choosing darker colours to hide stains. Slowly, diapers became her only option.

For 35 years, she managed her condition while missing weddings, festivals, and simple family get-togethers. With her husband’s support, she went from hospital to hospital. Every doctor told her the same thing: “Surgery may help for a while, but the problem will come back.” The words were discouraging, but Lakshmi never gave up hope.

That determination finally led her to AINU. Here, for the first time, Lakshmi heard something different. Dr. Sarika - Consultant Urologist and Dr. Syed Md. Ghouse - Director Robotic & Minimal Access Urological Surgery carefully examined her case and explained how advanced robotic surgery could delicately repair her condition by closing a 6 cm fistula — a large urinary leak hole that had persisted for decades.

“Such extensive perforations are extremely rare nowadays,” said Dr. Ghouse. “In most cases, they are only a few millimeters and treated early. But for a patient who has been suffering for 35 years, access to advanced robotic surgery is crucial. It allows us to completely close the defect and restore normal function.”

Lakshmi underwent the surgery, and it changed everything. After 35 years, she no longer needs diapers. She attends family gatherings with confidence, celebrates festivals with joy, and plays freely with her four grandchildren.

Lakshmi’s story is one of patience, courage, and hope. It shows that no one should have to live with a problem they believe is permanent — because at AINU, precision care makes life-changing transformations possible.
