AINU Hitec-City organises MO’Walk 2024 to create awareness on Men’s Health

The health walk was organized to mark the occasion of Movember: Mens Health awareness Month

Over 400 health enthusiasts, caregivers, and people from all walks of life turned up to take part in a walkathon event organised by Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology, Hitec-City hospital to Cyber Towers Junction Road on 24th November Sunday on the occasion of Movember: Mens Health Awareness Month, aimed at creating awareness about mens health and preventive measures and the importance of timely screening and treatment.

The event was flagged off by senior consultants of AINU, Hitec-City. The awareness drive witnessed 400 volunteers enthusiastically walking across the busy streets, covering several kilometers. The walkathon was aimed at creating awareness about men’s health, with a focus on lifestyle diseases and urological cancer like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, etc. Participants walked from AINU Hitec hospital road to the cyber towers junction & back to hospital.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in 112 countries and accounts for 15% of cancers. Despite being relatively uncommon compared to other cancers, testicular cancer presents a significant challenge, particularly for young men aged 15 to 35. The incidence of this disease is on the rise, underscoring the importance of early detection and effective treatment.

Keeping in mind the prevalence of this kind of cancer in the country and the complications that it can trigger, AINU Hitec-city took a step today to spread awareness among the people about men's health and the importance of early screening. This kind of walkathon brings men's health into focus.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. C Mallikarjuna, Chief Consultant Urologist & Managing Director AINU said, “Prostate and testicular cancer are significant concerns for men aged 20 to 50, with prostate cancer more common in older men and testicular cancer affecting both younger and older individuals. Many men overlook early warning signs such as frequent urination, blood in the urine, or changes in testicular size; recognizing these symptoms and doing regular screening can drastically improve treatment success rates.

Present-day lifestyle stress highlights the importance of addressing men's mental and physical health. Mental stress often leads to physical health issues, including prostate-related concerns, which can affect overall well-being, confidence, and quality of life. Advancements in treatments, such as minimally invasive procedures including robotic surgeries, have made managing prostate health easier, restoring confidence, and ensuring a better quality of life with reduced side effects and faster recovery.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Sandeep Guduru CEO - AINU said, “In the era of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic modalities early diagnosis and treatment is a norm, and in this regard, men's health needs to still make its mark. Movember is one such annual global event which began in 2003 in Australia, to raise awareness of men’s health, particularly focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. At AINU we have a deep commitment to treating Urological issues particularly cancer and hence we feel it is important to mark such occasions and spread the word.”
